1 Learn to fly
Fisantekraal Airfield is a former SA Air Force airfield built circa 1943. Privately owned since 1993, it serves as a general airfield and is a favourite for flight training. You can also take a scenic microlite flight. Call 021 976 7053.
2 Taste fine wine
Part of the original Groot Phesantekraal farm, Phizante Kraal has been owned by the Brink family since 1897, producing premium quality, award-winning red and white wines since 2005. Call 021 825 0060.
The Phizante Kraal restaurant is housed in the old stables, dated 1767, with the original stone floor and wooden mangers restored to blend with pristine white furniture, ghost chairs and historical photos. Seasonal menus provide wholesome meals. Call 021 825 0060.
4 Go shopping
The Graanendal Mall (021 976 2114), on part of what used to be Groot Phesantekraal, is a convenience centre with Pick n Pay, Clicks, small retailers and Cafe Grano coffee shop (021 975 6657).
5 Volunteer or donate
Fisantekraal Animal Welfare (062 258 3547 / 084 519 0380) always needs help to work directly with animals and their owners, raise funds, work in their shop, pack and sell subsidised food, make kennels and collars, and run adoption days.
