Randpark Ridge: Perfect for families

With easy access to most parts of Joburg, and with a good offering of shopping choices and private and government schools, Randpark Ridge residents tend to stay put for decades

Randpark Ridge is one of Randburg’s more family-orientated suburbs, conveniently situated close to good schools and with easy access to main centres in the north and west of Joburg, allowing for easy commuting.

“It’s good for families with children as there are plenty of good schools – both private and government – in the area.

There are also lots of entrepreneurs here. Homeowners have a tendency to stay for around 20 to 30 years,” says Pamela Cisak, an estate agent with Jawitz Properties Randburg who specialises in Randpark Ridge.

Well-regarded private schools include Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge, Curro Aurora and Charterhouse.

Good public schools include Randpark Ridge Primary, Weltevreden Park Primary and Rand Park High.

Cisak says Randpark Ridge is centrally situated close to Florida in the west and Sandton to the east, with the main feeder road, Beyers Naude Drive (M5), facilitating easy access to surrounding centres and providing a link with the N1 freeway.

Other local arterial routes are John Vorster Drive, Ysterhout Drive (M6) and Christiaan de Wet Road (R564), which is parallel to the freeway.

“Traffic can be an issue, but that’s a common concern for most areas. It can take 15 minutes to get to Florida or Sandton from here in free-flowing traffic,” says Cisak.
Randpark Ridge is also near shopping centres such as Cresta, Clearwater and Northgate.

“It’s really like a little community on its own,” Cisak says of this suburb, which was established in the early 1980s and is bordered by Weltevreden Park, Sundowner, Boskruin, Bromhof, Honeydew and Fairland.

Randpark Ridge previously formed part of an old Witwatersrand farm, Boschkop, which took its name from the adjoining hill to the north, now Boschkop Nature Reserve in Boskruin.

Reasonably priced homes in the area tend to sell more quickly, with buyers increasingly looking for properties offering top value, says Cisak.

“Properties under the R2 million mark sell the fastest.

“There’s a huge property price variation in Randpark Ridge. You get apartments from around R600 000 to houses for about R3m,” says Cisak.

The housing stock includes smaller cluster units going for between R1m and R1.2m, with some of the available clusters going for as much as R3m.

Cisak says renovated properties fetch much more.

There are five exquisitely refurbished properties in the area which she is convinced would fetch between R3m and R3.5m, if not slightly more, if put on the open market.

The most expensive property Cisak has handled in Randpark Ridge was in the region of R4m.

Randpark Ridge compares well with Sundowner and Northwold, with Weltevreden Park not too far behind.
