Places of interest and things to do in Muizenberg
1 Eat
The beachfront is lined with eateries, including Tiger’s Milk (0217881869), Live Bait (0217882705), Knead (0217882909) and Primi Piatti (0217887130), all with great sea views. You can have all the fancy ice creams you like, but simply the best soft serve is from Majestic Cafe, one of the oldest businesses in the area. It’s been there since 1937, and besides the ice cream, there is so much amazing memorabilia to admire. 0217881433.
2 Coffee
“ZA Cafe is Derek Harrison’s baby – a mobile coffee truck that parks outside the artisanal bakery B.rood (0619126542) on Main Road,” says Van Staden. “I often stop for a chin wag and a coffee and then pick up a delicious loaf.”
3 Theatre
Decades of association with the Masque Theatre as a performer, director and writer has allowed Van Staden to bring her love of theatre and her love of this area together. “For those who want a fun, unique experience and just a taste of theatre, I run Be An Actor For A Day with my good pal Celia Musikanth at the Masque.” The theatre runs a programme of community and professional productions. 0217886999.
4 Walk
Van Staden has recorded a VoiceMap tour of Muizenberg (and recently added a new one for Kalk Bay), which is a great way to explore and learn about the area. “I do a lot of walkabouts. There is always something new and I am so chuffed that Sobeit Studio on Main Road opposite Muizenberg Junior has now opened a retail outlet for their amazing designs,” she says. Call Sobeit on 0217889007, and download VoiceMap from your phone’s app store.
