Northern Zululand: Industries attracted to rural towns
The tourism demand means there are significant opportunities for construction industry players ranging from conversions of existing properties into bed-andbreakfast type accommodation to hotels and larger projects.
Many motor-related businesses operate in Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe, including petrol stations, equipment and spare parts suppliers, and repair outlets that service both the local taxi industry and the extensive tourism market constantly flowing through their streets.
Where people converge, they eat, and the fast-food franchisors have made inroads into capitalising on these opportunities. National brands have their outlets in strip malls and the Mtuba Mall, while smaller independent food providers and restaurants ply their trade across the local and visiting populations.
This covers every aspect of the industry from guides to accommodation, sales and service providers. Creativity and imagination will suffice and require commercial space.
