Spanish company’s fine works are popular collectables.

Idea, an exquisite contemplative Lladro porcelain figurine, is among the lots for Ian Wyles Auctioneers’ online sale of jewellery and fine art which will close at 2pm on Tuesday. Lladro sculptures have long been globally sought after, with the limited and numbered copies of each edition quickly snapped up on auction.

The Lladro porcelain factory was founded in Spain in 1953 by three brothers, Juan, José and Vicente Lladro, and is still a family-owned company, employing some of the finest porcelain sculptors in Europe.

The factory, located in the Porcelain City complex near Valencia, is world-renowned. Lladro employs only sculptors and modellers with artistic originality who create high-precision designs.

The manufacturing ingredients are kept under tight guard. José Luis Santos, creator of the Idea figurine on auction by Ian Wyles, is among these superb craftsman and artists.

A closely guarded secret of the Lladro company is a specially developed porcelain paste, which gives the figures a unique character.

The composition of the gloss coat is also secret. Moreover, the Lladro brothers introduced innovations in the firing techniques, reducing three-layer firing to a one-layer process that has resulted in the creation of the special crystalline finish and pastel tonalities of Lladro works.
