Kenny Finberg Auctions will present its mid-year “Winter Investment Auction” on July 8 at the President Hotel in Bantry Bay. “With the volatility of the rand, we have seen a growing trend among bidders to invest in items with international value,” says auctioneer Kenny Finberg.
“In the 40-plus years that I have been auctioning, the demand for quality goods that can provide both pleasure and investment has never been more apparent.”
The auction this weekend will feature mainly jewellery and watches, but will also include a collection of Persian carpets, and international and South African art.
Finberg says a fine watch or good piece of jewellery can be worn and enjoyed while representing an investment that can offer future growth.
The selection of watches for men and women will be an auction highlight, with items to suit every pocket and taste, he says.
Gold and diamond Rolexes, and watches from manufacturers such as IWC and Breitling through to Omega and Tag Heuer, will be included.
“The watches are all guaranteed to be genuine, and prices will start at R1000.”
A rarity is the Rolex Sea-Dweller Deep Sea men’s watch, which will be on offer with its original box.
“For women, there is an 18ct white-gold and diamond Chopard, which includes 150g of gold and a 6ct diamond bezel, and retails at more than R1million.”
The jewellery section will include a variety of gold, diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald and tanzanite pieces of all ages and designs, many handcrafted by top jewellers.
“There will be beautiful dress rings, pendants, necklaces and earrings available.
“Of significance is a tennis bracelet set with 5ct of round, brilliant cut diamonds, and a very attractive pendant with a rare natural cushion cut sapphire.”
Among the carpets will be a substantial Tabriz with wonderful colour and good knotting, as well as a rare Bidjar carpet.
“The art section will represent a fusion of old and new: Victorian paintings juxtaposed with contemporary South African. Included in the collection on offer will be works by Beezy Bailey, Deborah Bell and Colbert Mashile, three Christo artworks and many others.
“Some artworks will be available from as little as R1000 each.”
Other items will include a Louis Vuitton President briefcase in its original bag.
The auction will take place at 10am on Sunday, with viewing from 9am.
