Industries found in Umgeni Business Park

1 Motor trade
This economic sector is significantly represented among the various shops and separate business parks within the neighbourhood. The diversity of the motor-related businesses matches the industry itself and includes car auction houses (Bidvest Burchmore’s); panelbeaters (Sinclair’s Panelbeaters); car parts and tyres (Approved Auto, Supa Quick, Tiger Wheel ‘n Tyre) and petrol stations (Engen).

2 Homeware
Overwhelmingly the business park has attracted companies catering to society’s desire to upgrade, refurbish and style their homes. This makes the neighbourhood a homeware heaven with businesses catering for everything from bathroom and kitchen remodelling (Ritz Tiles, CTM) to bedding and furniture (The Mattress King, Daikin Air-conditioning, Continental Crockery) and household goods (Just Plastics).

3 Food outlets
It caters for every victual demand. There are the fast-food chains (Steers, KFC) allowed to operate around-the-clock for late-night revellers using Umgeni Road to travel home; comfort food outlets (Hub Cabs Woodfired Pizza, Green Chilli Indian Cuisine) and Durban staples for bunny chows (Hollywood Bets Bunny Bar) or gourmet sandwiches, bagels and baguettes (Yiroll).
Maybe the most renowned is the boerewors roll outlet that has operated from a container outside the Makro exit doors for decades.

4 Advertising and printing agencies
Umgeni Business Park is home to Hirt & Carter advertising agency, Barrows Global Design and manufacturing and commercial printing group Uniprint. When the region was developed as a greenfields project, companies requiring large facilities had the opportunity to build or commission buildings suitable to their needs.

5 Independent operators
As part of an eclectic mix of businesses operating from the region, there are numerous independent entities with their premises in Umgeni Business Park. These include Basil Manning fishing equipment, Ubunje Uniforms and Solomon’s Cycles that all benefit from the proximity of large trading entities like Makro, Hirsch’s or Food Lover’s Market to draw a steady stream of clientele.
