A rather grisly auction lot was the rocking chair in which US president Abraham Lincoln was seated when John Wilkes Booth shot and killed him on April 14, 1865.

Lincoln was attending a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington.

The chair, owned by the theatre’s treasurer, was sold in 1929 by his widow. It was bought on auction for $2400 by Henry Ford.
