Erasmuskloof: Sturdy and secure

Diverse properties with older and durable homes at sensible prices and close to arterial routes to and from Pretoria and Centurion, plus major shopping centres, make Erasmuskloof appealing.

Perfectly located in the south-east of Pretoria, Erasmuskloof trumps most of its Pretoria East counterparts on many fronts.

One of the newer suburbs in the eastern regions, it offers quick access to arterial routes as well as secure home living.

“This tranquil suburb is a stone’s throw from the N1 and R21 and provides quick access to and from Pretoria and Centurion, as well as to OR Tambo International Airport,” says Johalet Steyn of Seeff Pretoria East.

“Brooklyn and Menlyn Maine are both within easy reach of Erasmuskloof and provide excellent restaurants and entertainment for young and old.”

Erasmuskloof offers a diverse range of properties at a “sensible price”. It is known for providing good value for money on townhouse complexes, on properties which have been subdivided and larger homes.

The suburb may be a relative newcomer when compared to counterparts in the Pretoria East area, but it has older and durable homes, some being upgraded.

“These homes have been standing for years and are not likely to cause prospective homeowners any problems in years to come,” Steyn says.

Most properties in the area are situated within boomed-off areas.

Sandwiched between Waterkloof Ridge and Newlands with Waterkloof Heights in its vicinity, the suburb offers a lifestyle and standards comparable to those of Waterkloof Ridge and Waterkloof Heights, but at a more affordable price, says Steyn.

She cautions homeowners should be realistic with their asking price as homes in Erasmuskloof cannot be expected to fetch the same prices as those in the neighbouring Waterkloof suburbs.

The biggest development in Pretoria East in years, Menlyn Maine, adds to Erasmuskloof’s appeal due to its nearness to the multibillion-rand investment.

Homeowners’ expectations regarding the facility’s impact on the values of their properties should, however, be tempered by the fact that the chief attraction remains quick access to the N1 and R21, says Steyn.

“The lifestyle opportunities offered by living in Erasmuskloof vary from tranquil living to the highs of city life. For an easy afternoon round of golf or a relaxing afternoon hike, both the Wingate Park Country Club and Waterkloof Golf Club are around the corner,” says Steyn. The Rietvlei Nature Reserve, Pretoria National Botanical Garden and Faerie Glen Nature Reserve are nearby nature leisure spots.

According to Steyn, residents in the area mostly comprise “young working professionals, families looking for a home to raise children and older couples looking to downscale once their children have left the nest”.

Shopping is another ready delight for residents to the east of the city as the area has numerous facilities. Castle Walk Centre is the neighbourhood mall and is great for convenience shopping and dining out.

“For those seeking more excitement, they can enjoy Menlyn Maine with its fresh idea of what city living is all about, from grocery shopping at any one of the flagship supermarkets to fine dining surrounded by glitz and glamour,” says Steyn.
