Julien’s Auctions of Los Angeles holds two world records for prices achieved for celebrity clothing.
In 2016, the auction house had its second placement in the Guinness Book of World Records for the sale of the most expensive dress ever sold at auction: the Marilyn Monroe “Happy Birthday Mr President” dress, which sold for $4.8million.
Monroe provocatively sang the ode to ill-fated US president John Kennedy on May 19, 1962, at Madison Square Garden, New York. The tight-fitting, flesh-coloured dress had 2 500 rhinestones sewn into it.
In 2009, Julien’s achieved a Guinness placement for one of Michael Jackson’s white gloves, which sold for $480000, making it the most expensive glove sold on auction.
