If you have about $5 million to spare and want to own the iconic nylon jacket screen legend James Dean wore in the 1955 movie, Rebel Without a Cause, you still have a chance. This comes after bids at a recent auction in Palm Beach in Florida in the United States failed to reach the reserve price.
The owner, Michael Scott of Hobe Sound, sought a price of at least $400000 (about R5.5m) but Palm Beach Modern Auctions just could not raise it.
Private offers are now being invited for the red jacket Dean wore while driving a 1949 Mercury coupé in the Nicholas Ray film.
Dean died in a crash in September 1955, about a month before the film’s premiere, while driving his Porsche Spyder.
