Eclectic selection will offer “something for everyone”.

Omni’s first monthly Select
auction of the year offers an
opportunity for potential buyers
to whet their appetites by dipping
into an eclectic array of offerings
from across the globe.

Omni’s Warren Scheuer says the auction rooms are filled with items of all descriptions, including beautiful glassware and ceramics, vases and tea sets, paintings and even a vintage globe, by various makers of all periods.

He says there is also an impressive book section, with a focus on rare publications on South African artists.

“Following the sale of these books at auction, an enticing selection of South African and international works of art will go under the gavel.

“For the traditionalist, a highlight piece will be a delightful landscape by WH Coetzer. The signed oil on board, simply entitled Landscape, has a conservative estimate of R20000 to R30000.”

At the opposite end of the spectrum is an extremely large and imposing contemporary work, titled Dancers, Cape Town, by Selwyn Pekeur, Scheuer says. The signed and dated mixed-media work on an incised panel measures 80cm by 120cm and also carries an estimate of R20000 to R30000.

“In addition, an exciting mix of close to 100 pieces of furniture, ranging from 19th century French armoires to modern lounge and bedroom suites, will go on the block.”

Scheuer says the eclectic selection will offer “something for everyone”.

“The estimates are low and the emphasis will be on selling, so buyers are likely to find bargains at this first sale of the year.”

The auction will take place over a single session which will begin at 10.30am on Tuesday.

The auction items may be viewed between 10am and 5pm until Monday, including this weekend, at Omni’s rooms at 9 Hemlock Road, Newlands.

Fully illustrated catalogues are available online at

“Department heads will be on hand throughout the viewing period for anyone who wishes to have items valued,” says Scheuer.

“We hold monthly catalogued auctions and quarterly premium auctions, and accept constant consignments throughout the year.”
