The Covid-19 lockdown restrictions’ destruction of restaurant businesses has astounded and saddened, Chris Baard, the head of Western Cape Auctioneers.
He says the volume of eating establishment assets consigned to his company for auction is unprecedented during the almost three decades he has been in auctioneering.
“It is heartbreaking to see how so many once popular and busy restaurants are floundering or have been obliterated. We are receiving a tsunami of consignments weekly,” Baard says.
“For those with resources to wait for normality to return, this is the ideal time to acquire the stock to start a restaurant – at bargain prices.”
Western Cape Auctioneers’ online disposal of catering equipment and restaurant assets, as well as diverse types of furniture, starts on August 8 at 11am and will finish on August 12 at 11am. On offer will be top-quality ovens, refrigerators, wine chillers and furniture, among others. Viewing is on August 10 and August 11 from 8am to 4pm at the farm Klein Joostenberg on the R304 Stellenbosch/Kleinheuwel road, adjacent to the N1, just after the highway’s weighbridge.
