Omni’s upcoming monthly Select Auction is described as “a breath of fresh air” by the auction house team.

Omni’s upcoming monthly Select Auction is described as “a breath of fresh air” by the auction house team.

The team says with more than 500 lots on offer, it will be easy for bidders to find pieces for their homes and to adorn themselves.

Shona Robie, who heads Omni’s decorative department, says: “The Select Auctions offer a monthly opportunity to acquire quality goods.

“Among the items on offer in the coming auction will be Clarice Cliff ceramics, pictured, and works by South African ceramicists Evette Weyers and Lydia Holmes, to name a few.”

A particular emphasis will be on items for the home, says Warren Scheuer, who heads the furniture department.

There will be more than 100 lots from the 18th century to the present, and ranging from pieces of European origin to items manufactured in the Cape.

“Some rare items will also be available. Highlights will include a 19th century architect’s desk, a large drum table, a pair of Italian giltwood occasional tables, French armoires and an exceptionally fine 19th century Davenport walnut piano. “

Gary Shean, who heads the fine art department, says the array of art will include Pieter van der Westhuizen’s Nude Figures with Birds, and a rare Walter Battiss silkscreen, which was illustrated in the book The Gentle Anarchist.

“With more than 100 works to be auctioned, bidders will be spoilt for choice,” says Shean.

The auction will also feature a consignment of more than 50 items of jewellery from a single collection. All these items will be offered without reserve.

Karen Shean, head of the jewellery and silver departments, anticipates this will draw many investors, dealers and collectors to the sale.

The auction will take place over two sessions at Omni’s premises at 9 Hemlock Street, Newlands, at 10am and 2pm on Tuesday.

The items on offer may be viewed between 10am to 4pm August 26, 10am to 2pm on August 27 and10am to 4pm on August 28.
