White rhino, kudu, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and warthog among species
Ian Wyles Auctioneers and Isivuno Auctioneers will join forces to present Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s annual game auction on May 17 at 11am.
The auction will take place at the Centenary Game Capture Centre in the Huhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve.
The Centenary Centre, a wildlife-holding facility, allows visitors to view animals in transit to their new homes.
The need for improved game capture, visitor and education facilities resulted in Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife building the centre in the eastern section of iMfolozi.
It has parking, a fast-food and refreshment kiosk, rhino and antelope bomas, and curios sold by the local communities at its craft market.
The history of game capture and current techniques are illustrated through videos and displays.
Ian Wyles, head of Ian Wyles Auctioneers, and Sipho Nzuza of Isivuno will knock down the bids following the viewing of the animals in the bomas from 9am to 11am on May 17.
White rhino, nyala, buffalo, waterbuck, kudu, zebra, blue wildebeest, warthog, giraffe, red hartebeest and blesbuck are expected to come under the hammer, although the species and numbers of wildlife on offer are subject to change.
The annual sale forms part of the bigger strategy that Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife employs to remove “excess surplus” animals. This is done for ecological reasons to safeguard their habitat, and the animals are translocated throughout southern Africa.
As a rhino conservation measure, buyers interested in bidding for white rhino must complete a detailed questionnaire before being permitted to register for the auction.
