Ask yourself what is critical and what are just nice to haves
So you are going to start some maintenance around your home and you have ensured that all your equipment is in working order. I begin by compiling a list and then decide what is critical and what are just nice to haves.
Then set yourself some realistic goals. I’ve found if I bring a full briefcase of work home from the office I end up doing nothing because it just seems too much to tackle, but if I bring just one thing I get it done and then enjoy the rest of the evening or the weekend.
You need all the right tools, but you also need all the right materials. There is nothing more frustrating than getting halfway through a project only to find that you are short of something, because once you stop and head off to the shop you are going to battle to start again.
So, sit down in a comfortable chair, with a glass of your favourite beverage, and start planning. Proper planning and preparation is the key to getting anything done.
