This week I went to a site meeting for a large re-roofing contract which is being done under the control of IPMT Remedial Building Consultants.
What a pleasure it was to have a pre-tender meeting, with a proper document, all the tenders present (all registered and compliant) and a consultant who was willing to listen to everyone’s ideas.
The client now has five fully briefed contractors, who are all tendering for the same thing, on a level playing field. What a difference this will make to the pricing and the finished article.
Obviously for small projects at home you can’t go to these lengths and expenses, but where possible get all your tenderers together at the same time and go through the job with everyone together.
In my opinion a building consultant such as IPMT is the way to go for body corporates, property managers and owners of large buildings. All too often I have seen the results of people who think they know it all trying to do it themselves with disastrous results.
