Beware of out-of-sight, out-of-mind, warns Handy Mac

Please do as I say and not as I do, or neglect to do.

In light of Mrs Mac’s initiatives, I got the repair team from my company to attend to a few jobs around the house that my bad back won’t let me tackle.
First I got them to cut back all the tree branches and palm fronds that had been overhanging the roof. Now we have a lot more light in the house, but more importantly was I was able to see how much damage had been done to my roof tiles and what was in my gutters.
The trees were only overhanging 20% of my gutters, but the team took out two full bags of rubbish. The second task was to empty the roof void where, years ago, I had installed a storage platform which we have been dutifully filling for years.
How the ceilings have never collapsed I don’t know.
Also over the years, the boarding I used for the platform had become old and brittle, and many of the stored items are well past their sell-by date. A suitcase with a handle
that falls off when you pick it up is never going to be used again.
So, beware of out-of-sight, out-of-mind.
We did, however, find my old teddy bear, right, who is 63 years old and apparently worth a few rand.
