Tip of the week: Be realistic about DIY projects

Modern technology can ensure we know everything about a new
product, but we often forget it might not fit into our environment.
A practical example is seeing a beautiful floor mosaic laid on a
board in a showroom; it looks perfect, just what you wanted.
attempting to re-create that effect on your old bathroom floor,
which is not square or level, might not be successful. It will not look
like it did in the showroom, unless you hack up the floor screed,
re-plaster the walls and start from scratch.
It is much easier to lay a 900x900mm tile than to lay the same
area of tiny mosaic floor tiles.
A tip for both client and contractor – don’t begin a renovation
project until you have samples of all the materials to be used and an
understanding of how the end product is supposed to look. Once you
begin, there is no going back.
Beware of silver-tongued salespeople, who will tell you what you
want to hear to make a sale.
