Feedback: Stop-cocks and sparkling pool

GETTING OLD: I am really going to have to get stuck into preparing a series on adjusting our homes for when we get old. Dorty following his idea on accessible stop-cocks, and the reply from David, admits as follows:

“Don, sorry, but I just had to react to Dorty’s comments on stop-cocks. I don’t have his problem with kneeling down – that’s the easy part. It’s getting up again that hampers me.”

As a kick-off point, stairs get harder to climb the older you are. Please can my older readers share some ideas as to what they found handy to adjust around the house as the years creep up.

SPARKLING POOLS: Not much impresses me, but I just had to print the photo of an old client’s swimming pool. I went on a site visit and could not believe the state of his swimming pool.

Although the water is low, it is the cleanest and most sparkling pool I have seen in over a year. The only water it has had since restrictions began is rainwater, and as the level drops he has just adjusted the length of the inlet and suction pipes accordingly. He says it is so clear because he uses no chemicals apart from a tiny amount of copper sulphate which was recommended by a friend a year ago.

I popped into my local pool shop yesterday and asked them about copper sulphate. They agree it can be used but that overdosing can cause black stains in gunite pools. I’ve checked on the internet and there are some health warnings around the use of copper sulphate if too much is used. So please do your research before attempting this, there are hundreds of articles on the net.
